Guided Hands

Gray Matters Alliance is very pleased to partner with ImaginAble’s Guided Hands®, an innovative assistive technology designed to help individuals with limited hand mobility communicate, create, and interact with technology more easily.

At GMA, we love Guided Hands because it’s a natural fit with the GMA MyCompass System.

The device is fully compatible with iPads and AAC devices, making it a powerful tool for individuals who rely on assistive technology for communication and daily activities.

Whether someone is using the device to point and tap on a screen with smooth, guided movements or working with an Apple Pencil for drawing or writing, Guided Hands helps make communication, creativity, and self-expression more accessible for both children and adults.

The technology has gained significant recognition for its impact. Guided Hands is officially recognized by Apple as an approved third-party assistive technology for individuals with limited mobility and is now featured on the Apple website.

How Guided Hands Works

Guided Hands is designed to support individuals who may have difficulty with fine motor control in their hands. Instead of relying on small hand movements, the device allows users to guide their hand using shoulder and arm movements, which are often easier to control.

This design enables users to write, paint, draw, and interact with digital devices using movements that feel more natural and accessible.

Because of its therapeutic value and practical application, many occupational therapists consider it an incredibly valuable tool for helping individuals develop independence and creative expression.

From One Artist’s Need to a Life-Changing Tool

Guided Hands was originally invented to help a person with Cerebral Palsy continue painting, allowing them to maintain their artistic expression despite limited hand mobility.

What began as a solution for one individual quickly evolved into a device that can benefit many others.

Today, Guided Hands supports people living with conditions such as arthritis, neurological disorders, and other mobility limitations that affect fine motor skills.

By expanding access to technology and creative tools, the device opens doors for communication, independence, and personal expression.

March Is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

March is recognized each year as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing public awareness about the contributions, needs, and potential of Americans with developmental disabilities.

The 2026 theme, “We’re Here: Then, Now, Always,” highlights an important message: people with disabilities have always been, and will continue to be, an essential part of our communities.

The awareness month was first declared by President Ronald Reagan in 1987 and continues to serve as an opportunity to promote inclusion, break down barriers, and create more opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to lead fulfilling and independent lives.

At GMA, we are proud to support technologies and services that help make inclusion, independence, and opportunity possible.
